Can You Use Metal Utensils on a Titanium Pan?

It depends entirely on one thing: whether your pan has a coating on it. Uncoated titanium takes metal utensils without complaint. Coated pans are a different conversation, even the ones rated as metal-safe.
This question gets answered badly almost everywhere, usually because the answer that sells more pans is a confident yes. The honest answer has more in it than that.

Why uncoated pans do not care
On an uncoated pan, the cooking surface is the pan. There is no layer sitting on top that can be cut, chipped or worn through, because nothing was applied in the first place. A metal spatula dragged hard across bare titanium may leave a faint mark on the finish. It does not remove anything, and it does not change how the pan cooks.
This is the main practical argument for cooking on uncoated metal. You can scrape the fond off the bottom of the pan to build a sauce, lever a stuck piece of chicken skin free, and scrub the whole thing afterwards with a stainless scrubber. None of it shortens the pan's life.
What "metal-safe" means on a coated pan
Some non-stick coatings are tested and rated to withstand metal utensils. Our Large Titanium Non-Stick Pan carries that rating, and we state it on the product page because it is true.
Here is the part that usually goes unsaid: a scratch-resistant rating is not the same as scratch-proof, and it tells you nothing about the rest of the coating's life. Every coating is a finite resource. Heat wears it, abrasives wear it, and utensil contact wears it - the rating only means that last one wears it more slowly than it would on an unrated coating.
So the rating is real, and we would still reach for a wooden spatula. Not because the pan will fail if you do not, but because the cheapest way to make a coating last is to take the wear out of it wherever taking it out costs you nothing.
What to use instead
Wood - will not scratch anything, handles heat, cheap to replace. The best default.
Silicone - flexible enough to get under a fried egg cleanly. Check the heat rating on the handle.
Nylon - fine, but the lower-quality ones soften and deform at frying temperatures.
What actually does the damage is rarely the spatula anyway. It is the sharp corner of a metal whisk left resting in the pan, a knife used to cut something while it is still in there, or stacking pans inside each other so a rim grinds against a coating in the cupboard. Those three cause more coating failures than a lifetime of careful spatula use.
If you have already scratched a coating
A visible scratch is not an emergency and the pan is not unsafe to use. What it means is that the non-stick performance will start to go in that spot first, and food will begin to catch there before it catches anywhere else. That is the coating telling you where it is in its life. Keep the heat moderate from then on and it will still serve you for a long while.
If the coating is flaking rather than scratched - lifting in pieces rather than marked - stop using the pan. That is a different situation, and no amount of careful cooking brings it back.
Which pan should you be looking at?
If the utensil question matters enough to you that you are reading an article about it, you may simply want an uncoated pan. No rules, no lifespan, nothing to replace.
If you would rather have easy release for eggs and fish and accept that the surface has a finite life, a coated pan is the right call and a wooden spatula is a small habit to build.
