How many pans do you make, and how do they differ?+
Five, in two families.
Uncoated titanium steel — nothing applied to the cooking surface. The Uncoated Titanium Steel Frying Pan (26–32cm) and the Hammered Multi-Use Pan (24–34cm).
Titanium non-stick — a coated surface for easy release. The Lightweight 24cm Pan, the Large Non-Stick Pan (30–34cm) and the Non-Stick Pan Set (32cm, with lid, steamer and spatula).
Is the cooking surface coated or uncoated?+
It depends which pan, and it is the only decision that really matters. The two uncoated pans have no coating applied at all — they brown properly and there is nothing on the surface that can wear off. The three non-stick pans have a titanium-reinforced coating for easy release. Every product page says plainly which one it is.
What sizes are available?+
24cm to 34cm across the range:
- Lightweight non-stick — 24cm, 800g
- Uncoated frying pan — 26, 28, 30 and 32cm
- Hammered multi-use — 24, 26, 28, 30, 32 and 34cm
- Large non-stick — 30, 32 and 34cm, 9cm deep
- Non-stick set — 32cm
Is a lid included?+
It depends on the option you choose, so check before adding to cart. The hammered multi-use pan and the large non-stick pan are each sold three ways — pan only, pan with glass lid, or pan with lid plus a steamer tray or wooden spatula. The non-stick set always ships complete: pan, domed glass lid, stainless steamer basket and spatula. The uncoated frying pan offers finishes with and without a lid.
Which cooktops can I use them on?+
All five pans are listed for gas and induction. The hammered multi-use pan is additionally listed for electric. Where we have not confirmed a cooktop type for a pan, we leave it off that product page rather than implying it.
Can I put them in the oven or the dishwasher?+
No — we do not currently rate any Urban Nest pan as oven, broiler or dishwasher safe. Hand wash them and keep them on the hob. We would rather tell you that plainly than let you find out the hard way.
Can I use metal utensils?+
On the uncoated pans, yes without qualification — there is no coating to damage. The large non-stick pan is rated scratch-resistant and metal-safe, though gentler utensils are always kinder to a coating. On the lightweight 24cm pan and the set, silicone, wood or smooth-edged utensils will make the surface last longer.
How long does a non-stick coating last?+
Every non-stick coating has a finite life, and how you treat it decides whether that is two years or ten. Cook on low to medium heat, never heat the pan empty, let it cool before washing, and hand wash it. If you would rather not think about it at all, an uncoated pan has nothing to wear out.
What are the pans made of?+
The uncoated pans are titanium steel with a textured interior; the hammered pan has a five-layer steel composite base. The large non-stick pan has a triple-layer composite base and a titanium-reinforced coating, and the lightweight 24cm pan has an aluminium alloy core. The non-stick pans are described as food-grade and PFOA-free. Full construction details are on each product page, and anything we cannot source we leave off.
Do they need seasoning?+
No. Seasoning is not part of the routine for any pan in this range. The uncoated pans work on preheat, oil, then food — not on a built-up seasoning layer like cast iron.
